Shoot the Stars | Near Johnson City, TX (Exact Location TBD)

• Date: 03/20/26

• Duration: 4 hours (est 8pm-12am)

• Group Size: 10 – 12 MAX

• Location: Near Johnson City, TX (Exact location to be sent after registration.)

• Focus: Basic star photography, camera settings for night sky, timelapse, location scouting and light pollution.

• Includes: Hands-on instruction, how to focus in the dark, best times for shooting, & phone photography guidance.

• Stay All Night: Once the hands-on instruction has completed, put your skills to the test. Spend the night under the stars!

• Investment: $100 (Includes our Beginner’s Field Guide. Updated for the 2026 season!)

* FYI: This class is intended to be an introductory into photographing the night sky.

This time of year the Milky Way Core is not visible until around 3:00am.

Photography Gear

To capture images of the Milky Way you’ll need some basic gear. (Below image is part of a gopro timelapse.)

Camera: A camera with full manual control or a camera phone with the ability to take a 30 second exposure
Lens: A wide-angle fast lens with a fast aperture. (f/2.8 or lower)
Tripod: Sturdy tripod to keep camera stable during long exposures.
Remote Shutter or Intervalometer: To minimize camera shake on ling exposures
Extra Batteries and Memory Cards: Night Photography can be power and storage intensive.
Camera Tracker: Optional gear for extreme long exposures without star-trailing

*All registered participants will receive a detailed list of recommended equipment to help them prepare.

If you cancel the workshop for any reason, you will receive workshop credit towards your next workshop.
Credit does not expire.
